Beauty contract manufacturer Ei, A Pharmaceutical Solution Works
signed agreements with European-based professors and
technologists for the exclusive worldwide license of a novel class of
sphingolipids. Sphingolipids are found in the extracellular spaces of
the stratum corneum, where they play a critical role in strengthening
the barrier function of the skin, promoting moisture retention and
increasing elasticity of the skin. The specific technology Ei licensed
consists of a novel lamellar lipid topically delivered through a
custom formulation system. In preliminary clinical studies, the
technology has demonstrated significantly better barrier function
with substantial improvement in moisture retention when compared
to commercially available sphingolipid compounds, according to
the company. And as part of this exclusive licensing arrangement, Ei
has been granted options on several related technologies in various
stages of development. www.eisolutionworks.com
EMD Chemicals Performance Materials division announced the
launch of its newest functional filler line, RonaFlair Boroneige for
cosmetic applications, as EMD Chemicals will be the exclusive
distributor of the Boroneige products, formerly owned by ESK
Ceramics GmbH & Co. KG. RonaFlair Boroneige functional fillers
consist exclusively of boron nitride, a very pure powder substrate
with a pure-white color and heavy metal values that are far below
the statutory limit values. The products combine three properties
that beauty product developers often desire in functional fillers:
They have a mattifying effect, give cosmetic formulations a smooth
texture, and provide for a soft-focus effect that renders wrinkles and
skin imperfections virtually invisible. RonaFlair Boroneige functional
fillers are offered in five different particle sizes and can be used in a
wide variety of cosmetic applications. www.emd4cosmetics.com
Berkem introduced Polynektars, a new range of plant-based
cosmetic active ingredients based on polyphenols. The first two
launches in the line include a skin-lightening, antioxidant active
derived from oregano leaves and a skin brightener derived from
strawberry leaves. The first, Origa’light, is rich in polyphenols from
the hydroxycinnamic acid family. Not only do these polyphenols give
the extract antioxidative capability, allowing it to absorb free radicals
to prevent the appearance of signs of aging, but they also allow it
to lighten the complexion through its anti-tyrosinase features. The
second, Fresh’ka, which was developed to brighten the skin, is rich in
polyphenols from the flavonoid family. The active brightens dull skin
by toning micro-vessels in the skin and contributing to better cellular
oxygenation; refining skin texture through an astringent effect
that decreases pore diameter and tightens skin with tannins; and
lightening the complexion gently using anti-tyrosinase properties.
